AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

Our Aikido After School Program introduces students to the fundamentals of Aikido through playful movement, basic techniques, and cooperative partner work. It fosters physical coordination, respect, self-discipline, and conflict resolution skills in a safe, supportive environment, laying the foundation for lifelong learning in martial arts and personal development.

About Our After School Program

Our After-School Aikido Program aligns with international curricula and socio-constructivist educational principles, emphasizing learning through experience, reflection, and social interaction. Inspired by thinkers like Dewey and Vygotsky, the program fosters holistic development by integrating physical movement with cognitive and emotional growth. Students learn through guided partner work, cultivating respect, empathy, and self-awareness in a collaborative, inquiry-driven environment. These experiences support global competencies such as intercultural understanding, personal responsibility, and lifelong learning.

Teaching Philosophy

An Aikido class in an international school can be a space for active, collaborative learning. Instead of emphasizing rote technique, students engage through exploration and reflection. Partner work encourages cooperation, with each student alternating roles to support mutual improvement. The teacher acts as a facilitator, prompting students to observe, question, and experience principles like balance and timing firsthand.

Lessons include open-ended challenges—such as adapting techniques for different partners or exploring how breath affects posture—fostering problem-solving and creativity. Class discussions and brief reflections help students process their learning and connect it to broader ideas like empathy and harmony.

Cultural diversity is embraced as a strength. Different movement styles and perspectives enrich the practice, turning the dojo into a shared learning community. Through this approach, students build not only technical skill but also awareness, confidence, and respect for others.
